Arts in the Desert Workshops

Program: Summer Arts Workshops for ages 6-12 

ArtVentures in Engineering Workshops
Partners: Herberger College; ASU Women in Applied Science & Engineering; others

Program: This series explored the intersections of the arts, math, and sciences; aimed at an intergenerational audience; mini-lectures and hands-on workshops around relevant topic areas, such as:

§  The Science of Painting, 3-hour workshop (Spring 2002)

§  Acoustics: Exploring Sound, 6-hour workshop (Fall 2002)

§  Pattern & Symmetry, 5-hour workshop (Spring 2003)

§  Music & the Brain, 3-day event (Spring 2004)

§  Arts & Integration, workshop & performance event (Spring 2005)

§  Exploration of project with Physics Dept during Spring 2006

ASU ArtsBridge & Early Childhood ArtsBridge (2001-2006) Partners: Herberger College of Fine Arts; UC-Irvine; Scottsdale Center for the Arts; various schools & school districts

Program: Student arts education scholars from ASU Herberger College partnered with K-12 classroom teachers to integrate the arts with other subject areas.

ASU to You Gilbert and Tempe Arts Café (1998-2006)
Partners: City of Tempe; City of Gilbert; Herberger College; Friends of Tempe Public Library; College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Program: Annual Series of 6 Programs showcasing ASU faculty   lecturing and guiding discussion around their favorite topics 

Art for Health: Juried Student Art Exhibition & Sale (2004 -2006)Partners: ASU School of Nursing; Grace Lutheran Church

Program: Annual Juried Student Exhibit at the Grace Lutheran Church on First Fridays to showcase student work and support the Breaking the Cycle Clinic. 

Community Performance Series
Program: Generally music and dance events scheduled by the Community Partnerships Office

§  ASU Plays the Park, Patriots Square, Phoenix, 6 events per year

§  Kax Herberger Graduate String Quartet, various venues, 16 per year

§  Additional performances at retirement centers, schools, and The Centers for Habilitation

Herberger Collegiate Partnership Award
Program: Annually recognized student achievement in community partnership and public scholarship, providing a $1,000 scholarship to one graduate and one undergraduate 

Herberger College Faculty Award for Public Scholarship
Program: Annually recognized faculty achievement in community partnership and public scholarship, providing a $1,000 stipend 

Maestra!Maestro! Teaching Artist-Apprentice Program (2001-2006)
Partners: Herberger College; Arizona Commission on the Arts; Phoenix Parks & Recreation; Phoenix Office of Arts & Culture; Scottsdale Center for the Arts; Multiple Arts Organizations and Schools

Program: ASU student scholars apprentice with teaching artists in after-school programs and residencies for a semester at a time, integrating the arts into afterschool learning experiences
